Disgraceful FBI. Ratcatcher was disappointed earlier this week to hear former Vice President, Mike Pence, go to bat for the FBI. Mr. Pence is, by all accounts, an honest man. But he is ignoring evidence of persistent and deep-rooted rot within the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Mr. Pence does not owe some debt of loyalty to Donald Trump with whom he served. It is clear that there has been a breach between the two of them. Mr. Pence is not obligated to carry water for the former president, although he might recall that he was part and parcel of the administration that was under constant and unrelenting attack from the government, with the FBI acting as the point of the spear. M. Pence does himself no favor when he seems to pander to the FBI as if it were some sacred institution to which he owes obeisance. It is not and he does not. The FBI has squandered its reputation and the instinctive loyalty most Americans felt toward it. And here is the most troubling part of all: the line officers, those who carry out the orders of the higher ups in Washington D.C. and elsewhere have badly tarnished their own reputations by their blind obedience to clear violations of the Constitution. Every FBI agent swears an oath to uphold the Constitution. He violates that when, in response to orders from D.C., he breaks down doors, handcuffs innocent and harmless people, and entraps unsuspecting people so as to coerce them into lying or adopting false stories to facilitate the prosecution of other targets. The end does not justify the means when the FBI or Department of Justice engage in such conduct any more than it does when the Russian or Chinese authorities entrap Americans to use as leverage. The appropriate action for line officers confronted with such orders is to resign.

Loan Forgiveness. President Biden is again pandering to prospective supporters by proposing further delays in the repayment of their student loans or even the eventual forgiveness of those loans. Every American with any sense of fairness ought to be outraged at that proposal. How is that fair to the millions of students who have for decades dutifully paid their debts? Are they to receive repayment of all that they paid, including the interest? Why not? Fair is fair, right? How about those who did not go to college or universities? Why should they, through their taxes, be obligated to shoulder the bills of those who have failed to pay what they owe? Do they get some form of balancing compensation? Fat chance! Pay attention America. If Biden carries out this proposal, that act alone, ignoring all of his other misadventures and screw-ups of the past 20 months, should be sufficient reason to vote out the Democrats this November and to prepare to send Joe packing as soon as his term is over.
