DID THE PALESTINIANS ASK FOR WAR?

There is a great deal of handwringing going on these days over the loss of life in the Gaza Strip.  Ratcatcher is mindful of the loss of life and the fact that many innocent people have been killed since the outset of the outrageous war begun on October 7, 2023 by Hamas.  It is clear that children have been killed along with the terrorists in Israel’s response to the genocidal murder, rape and brutality of the Hamas raider on October 7th.  As regrettable as that loss of life is, those deaths were perfectly foreseeable as the consequence of the unprovoked attack by Hamas.

Legacy media as well as ,pbs throughout the Middle East have decried Israel’s military response.  The Biden Administration has attempted to micromanage the Israeli strategy, dictating tactics and asserting demands that were stupid and insulting to America’s best friend in the Middle East.  But the arguments of the media and mobs deserve a thoughtful reply.  Hs Israel’s response been excessive?  Was there another way to bring peace o the Gaza area and cause Hamas to cease its campaign of terror?  Would the withdrawal or Israeli forces, or the dramatic reduction in the number of troops and weapons have resulted in the outbreak of peace?

We ought to start with the last question.  When polled, well over 70% of Palestinians replies that they fully supported the attacks on Israel of October 7th.  What are we to make of that sentiment?  Are the Palestinians longing for peace and, if so, what kind of peace?  Perhaps their fondest wish is a peace without Israel.

How about the Hamas leadership?  They are on public record of repeatedly asserting that, given the chance, they will attack Israel again and again and again.  No real hope for peace from that quarter. 

Well, maybe the people of Gaza long for a different form of leadership, a different controlling force.  No, again they have repeatedly voted for Hamas leadership in Gaza full well knowing what that implied vis a vis Israel and peace in the region.  This brings to mind the old saw; people deserve the government they get.  If the Palestinians have longed for peace with Israel, why haven’t they thrown out the Hamas monsters a long time ago?  Could it be that they simply approve the long-term goal – wipe out Israel and the Jews?

The evidence is overwhelming and irrefutable.  Palestinians, by and large, did ask for war with Israel by their constant and abiding support for Hamas.  The Muslims among the Palestinians will not like Ratcatcher’s simile, but if you lie down with pigs, you will be covered with mud and stink just like the pigs!
