Democrat Strategy—Never Give Up

A controversy in the Commonwealth of Virginia illustrates a fundamental principle of the Left: Never Give Up—Never Quit—Retreat Temporarily But Don’t Quit.
Democrat State Delegate Elizabeth Guzman recently announced that she would introduce legislation in Virginia that would have expanded the definition of child abuse to include parents inflicting “physical or mental injury” on children due to their gender identity or sexual orientation. Guzman first began drafting such legislation in order to counter Virginia GOP Governor Glenn Youngkin’s transgender policies in which parents of transgender children had to be made aware if their child wanted to transition or go by a different name at school.
Guzman sent a text to fellow Democrats stating that her legislation would be the vehicle by which to push back against Governor Youngkin’s policy. Guzman advanced outrageous and groundless arguments, claiming that Governor Youngkin and Republicans are putting LGBTQ kids at serious risk of harm and homelessness by encouraging schools to out children to their parents.” Homelessness? How stupid does Guzman believe the people of Virginia are?
When the push back came it was from the parents who support Governor Youngkin, not Guzman. The outrage was palpable. So Guzman has announced a tactical retreat and announced that she will not introduce the bill after all. But Guzman and her allies are true believers. They will be back! That’s the Democrat playbook. It’s also right out of Rules for Radicals. Take an extreme position; argue forcefully for it; use personal, ad hominem attacks on your enemy; and then retreat to allow he populace to absorb your position. Then come back stronger than ever.
Ratcatcher is not a Virginian. Ratcatcher does not have a mole in the Guzman political machinery. But we are prepared to bet that, in due course, Guzman will bring back her outrageous proposal. The burning question is whether Virginia parents will remain vigilant and militant on behalf of their children.
