Feeble Unprepared Republicans

Ratcatcher had occasion to watch several programs on Fox News today and was struck by the feeble and incomplete, unprepared responses that at least two of the stronger, more articulate Republican Senators gave to questions from the hosts.

Rick Scott from Florida was asked to talk about the plans of the Republicans in Congress to cut the spending set in place by President Biden and his allies in Congress. That question could not possible have been a surprise to Senator Scott. The Fox staffers who arrange such appearances would have informed him of the topic. Moreover, the host had a long lead-in discussing spending before asking the obvious question: What are the Republicans going to do about this? Scott should have been prepared with specific items to be deleted from the spending. Instead, Mr. Scott talked in generalities about earmarks and the amount allocated for new IRS agents. Why not identify the specific earmarks? Why not identify the amounts allocated for special Democrat-favored projects, Planned Parenthood, and the like. Scott and his buddies have had a month since the Omnibus Spending Bill was passed to read it, pick out the outrageous items of spending, and begin talking about them. Why aren’t they? Is it that they actually have not read the bill yet? Are they too lazy to identify the low-handing fruit to speak about? Why aren’t they running ads about specific items of spending that ought to be cut? Unprepared!!

One of the most interesting members of the Senate if John Kennedy of Louisiana. When questioned about President Biden’s continuing attacks on Republican, alleging that they intend to cut Social Security and Medicare benefits, Senator Kennedy responded that “it’s just not true.” Well, Senator, that’s right. Biden’s allegation and his attacks are “just not true. But they are worse than that. They are outright lies. Biden knows it; the members of his party know it; and you and your fellow Republicans know it. So why temporize. Call it for what it is, a lie. It is far past time for Republicans to engage vigorously, punching back hard at the lies of the Democrats and calling them out for the lies. No more feeble responses.
