GoFundMe – Theft

Ratcatcher is of the opinion that the managers at GoFundMe have shined a new and very intense light on the cancel culture, demonstrating just how arrogant and high-handed it is. With its appropriation of approximately $9.0 million contributed to aid the Canadian truckers who are demonstrating against their government, GoFundMe has openly and quite frankly said to the rest of us, “See, we can do whatever we damn well please and there is nothing you can do about it.” This is absolutely consistent with the conduct of Facebook (Meta) and other social media platforms that have asserted dictatorial authority over what is said by people posting their opinions.
GoFundMe has taken cancel culture to a new and dangerous level. The managers appear to have simply confiscated the money donated. They have refused to give it to the intended beneficiaries – which was, after all, the whole point of GoFundMe – and have further refused to refund the money to the donors! That is theft, pure and simple. Theft is a crime, even when perpetrated by a company. Ratcatcher is waiting to see whether any governmental agency will follow the law; do its duty; and prosecute these miscreants from GoFundMe.
Ratcatcher also recommends that people immediately STOP using GoFundMe. Put them out of business! They do not deserve a second chance.
