IF TEXAS SLEEPS

Texas has benefited greatly in the past ten years from migrations of disaffected conservatives fleeing states such as California, New York, and Illinois. Texas has trumpeted its virtues of no income tax, friendly folk, and general political conservativism. Literally thousands have answered that call and left home and family to seek a better environment in which to rear children, live, work, and eventually retire.
One of the cheerleaders of the pro-Texas movement has been Senator Ted Cruz. His credentials, academic, legal, and legislative are long and impressive. Yet, today he is challenged in Texas by Colin Alfred, a Democrat, hand-picked and funded under the leadership of New York Senator Chuck Schumer. One might fairly ask why Schumer is providing enormous funds (Cruz claims it is $100 million) to unseat the Texas Senator. The answer is deceptively easy. Power. Cruz is articulate. He is influential in conservative circles. And he will likely have a leadership position in the Senate if the Republicans retake control of that house in November. That spells doom for Charlie! What ever to do? Well v—defeat Cruz with a knee-jerk Dem.
“Well,” you say, “that’s just politics; power.” Yes, that’s right. But what if the defeat of Ted Cruz will mean a major shift in the general attitude of Texas? What if the election of Alfred to the U.S. Senate will mean more than merely helping Schumer keep his powerful seat? What if the election of Alfred will, in fact, signal that Austin has won; that the State of Texas is turning “blue” again? What then?
If Texas sleeps and allows Cruz to be defeated, do not be surprised by a massive change in the migration flowing to Florida, Tennessee, and other more conservatively friendly states, taking with them their money, businesses, and families. The government in Austin, Texas is a swamp all of its own. It literally defines “progressive” and despises everything the rest of the state endorses.
Texas used to be “blue.” It can become blue again. The people in Austin are counting on it. The rest of Texas should wake up. Don’t sleep through this election cycle and allow Ted Cruz to be defeated. You will bitterly regret it for a long time.
