Imitation is the Sincerest Form of Flattery

When any issue of public or foreign policy is being debated, one can turn on any channel of the television, cable, radio, Internet, or social media and hear a uniform, nearly verbatim statement or argument from every Democrat or media personality explaining what is true, right and just, at least from the Progressive perspective. Those spokesmen, whether elected or merely media do not vary from the official script by more than a word or two here or there. The substance is always the same. The argument is so uniform and universal that the public can be forgiven if they conclude that what they are hearing is, in fact, “Truth” with an appropriate capital “T.”
In sharp contrast, the messaging from the Republican or conservative side is almost always fragmented, disjointed, and splintered. The old saw about herding cats certainly applies to Republican messaging.
Never was the difference between the Democrat and Republican messaging more clear and stark than in the 2022 Mid-Term election. As always, the Democrat message was unified. The Biden Administration had done wonderfully; the Southern Border was closed and secure; crime was down across the country; bail reform was an unqualified success; the billions of dollars given to Ukraine were absolutely necessary for the safety and defense of America as well as Western Europe. Abortion was about to be banned across the country resulting in death for thousands of women denied legal and safe abortions. Transgendered people were entitled to the same civil rights as anyone else, including the right to have the government pay for gender modification procedures.
The answers to these arguments were clear, simple, and widely accepted by the people of America. The Republican/conservative movement merely had to make the argument; the sale was easy. But it turned out not to be easy. Why? A cursory examination of Republican messaging during the Mid-Terms shows a near total lack of coherence on these issues. The National Republican Party was AWOL on the issues. There was no leadership from Congress, especially the Senate leadership! Instead, as usual, the message was incoherent. People could be forgiven for wondering what the Republican position was on these issues. One thing was sure – there was no uniform, unified Republican message. It is, of course, too much to expect the legacy, liberal media to parrot Republican talking points. It is absolutely not unreasonable to expect every Republican candidate and elected official to get onboard and repeat the message. Democrats are disciplined; Republicans are not, and that lack of discipline is very costly.
So here is Ratcatcher’s sincere recommendation to the National Republican Party and to every state and local Republican group. Get on the same page. Agree to agree. Send out well-conceived and coherent talking points on every issue. Then candidates and elected officials – use them! Maybe with repetitive statement and hearing, the public will begin to absorb the points and be persuaded.
