Missed Opportunity

Consensus seems to be that President Trump prevailed in his debate last evening (October 22nd) with former VP, Joe Biden. That may be but the President missed an incredible opportunity to address one of the more pernicious lies the VP told. President Trump handles the volume of information that crosses his desk with great ease and seems to have a grasp of most of the significant issues of the day. But when Mr. Biden attacked on the specious charge that the Trump administration had separated children from their parents and failed to reunite 500 of them, the President did not have a clear and crisp answer.

There is a clear and crisp answer and it is one the Trump Administration has spoken about in the past.It is a shame the President either was not briefed again on the issue or forgot about it.During the onslaught of “caravans” from South and Central America, thousands of children were used by coyotes and criminals as a means of gaining access to the US.Posing as the parents of the children, many were admitted only to disappear forever into the interior of America.But there is an additional explanation for the 500 children and one that the President could have used effectively to silence Mr. Biden, co-author of the border cages where children were kept during the Obama Administration.Addressing the issue of the children, the Department of Homeland Security has reported that in fact the vast majority of the parents of the children have been found but have refused reunification with their children, which is why the children are still in DHS custody.That explanation would have been a powerful rebuttal to Mr. Biden’s baseless claims.Truth will out, but it would have been nice for it to have been outed last night.
