Olive Branches

From time out of mind, victors who wished reconciliation with their vanquished foes have “held out an olive branch.” Stated another way, victors have initiated peace with their foes. Defeated armies do not initiate peace with their conquerors; it is the other way around.

So what does that have to do with us today? President-elect Biden has on several occasions since the November general election claimed that he wished to unite Americans and bring an end to what he has described as the chaos of the past four years. Setting aside the question of chaos and who caused it, it is fair to focus on Mr. Biden’s efforts to unite America. As President-elect and, therefore, the titular head of the Democrat Party, Mr. Biden can fairly be charged with the duty to bring his subordinates in line with the goal of unifying America. How is that going nine days before his inauguration?

Starting with Mr. Biden, himself, while urging unification, he has on several occasions, described Trump supporters as the dregs of society, ugly folk, and most lately, Nazis! That is certainly unifying language. The thing is, it is unifying the Trump supporters even more to resist the Biden presidency.

The efforts of Mrs. Pelosi to initiate yet another impeachment of President Trump is similarly not intended to make peace. It is intended to stick her finger figuratively in the eye of every Trump voter in the country. That will certainly unify the nation.

The coordinated banning of the President from various social media platforms, the removal of other people known to be his supporters, and the outrageous decision to de-platform Parler, the principal outlet for conservative, unfiltered free speech is completely consistent with the Democrat playbook.

Mr. Biden is the face of the Democrat Party. He is its spokesman. There can be no doubt whatsoever that if Biden wanted an end to the impeachment discussions, the banning of people from social media platforms, and flagrant anti-trust violations by Google, et al against Parler, he could do it with a single phone call. He has not done so. Emerson told us “Who you are speaks so loudly I can't hear what you're saying.” Your actions speak much louder than your words. The Democrats do to not want peace. They do not want unity among Americans. They most certainly do not want to put the past behind them despite the fact that the worst of the last four years “past” was brought to us by the Dems themselves! They want surrender, capitulation. That is unlikely to happen. They may have actually declared war on the rest of America.

No olive branches from the Democrats! Mr. Biden, if you want peace and unity in America, start acting like it.
