Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose

Americans, and especially young Americans seem blithely ignorant of the past. Even relatively recent history appears too much to handle, witness Jesse Watters “Man in the Street” interviews conducted as part of his Watters’ World Program. Interviewees often do not know the name of the first American President; with what country the Revolution was fought; which president freed the slaves; and when the Second World War was fought. One can lay the blame for this ignorance at the feet of the education system, parents who failed to supervise their children, or mere indolence on the part of the students. One way or the other, ignorance of the part is a clear indication of poorly educated people and is dangerous.

Recently, the Quinnipiac University pollsters asked whether, if the United States were invaded by a foreign enemy the way Ukraine has been, those questioned would stay to fight for our country or flee the country. The answers were stunning. Of those who identified as Republicans (68%) and Independents (57%) were the most likely to say they would stay and fight for America. But a majority of Democrats (52%) said they would flee the country. Democrats [elites] have said for years that they hate America [Michelle Obama, et al]. Young Americans are the least patriotic generation in history and easily the most ignorant of the actual history of America. They have been taught that America is evil; that it was founded as a place to support and promote slavery [1619 Project garbage]; and that it is primarily a white supremacist nation despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary – evidence never provided to the students; withheld by dishonest teachers.

Now here’s where history comes in – where a knowledge of the past would actually be helpful. In 1933, fourteen years after the end of the Great War, the Oxford Union [Oxford University] debating society passed the following motion: “That this House will in no circumstances fight for King and Country” by 275 votes to 152. It is important to know that in 1932 universities in England, particularly Oxford and Cambridge, were reserved generally for the elite of English society – the children of the wealthy and entitled – the elite. Great Britain had been subjected to increasing anti-capitalist socialist [and even communist] forces infecting its institutions of higher learning. Oxford and Cambridge, among others, were loaded with professors who urged the benefits of communism. The King and Country were mere symbols of the capitalism they hated. Just as in America today, in 1932 it was easy for the educational system to mold and shape the students, influencing them into the same disdain for their homeland that is common on campuses in America today.

Do you see the parallels? The past is prelude to the future. Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose. America is being torn by a strong, determined, and well-positioned cadre of socialist/communists bent on destroying the American way of life. That destruction is not limited to the economics of capitalism, but, as with classic communism, reaches far beyond to encompass the destruction of the family and organized religion. The burning question is whether Americans will wake up in time to reverse the course upon which the country is currently set. It is an open question.
