SELECTIVE ENFORCEMENT

The Ratcatcher was as outraged as anyone at the attack launched January 6, 2021 on the Capitol in Washington, D.C. We join those who have called for the arrest and prosecution of all who wrongly attacked and entered the Capitol.

But Ratcatcher has noted the selection outrage of many, even many ostensibly on the “right,” who have called for aggressive law enforcement against the January 6th rioters but are silent about similar law enforcement against the rioters of the summer, starting with the Minneapolis rioters. Our televisions brought us vivid and clear pictures of the looters and vandals. We assume that law enforcement was able to identify the rioters. After all, we were able to see them clearly in the news footage broadcast daily into our homes. In fact, we know from news reports that in many cities, the rioters were identified and arrested. But then district attorneys and local officials simply released them without charges. Why? Where was (is) the outrage over those riots, the death and destruction that they visited on cities across the nation?

We have also noted the riots in Portland, Seattle, Tacoma, -and New York City since the inauguration. Those rioters have also been captured in clear images. Will they be held to account as the January 6th rioters have been? We wonder.

There is one other notable difference in the manner in which various rioters have been treated. Throughout the summer, only Republican officials decried the rioting and the fact that nothing was being done to quell the insurrection. By the way, we used that word intentionally since, in several of the summer riots and again this past week in Portland, Oregon, the rioters were quite clear they were out to destroy the government – insurrection! As of this writing, January 26, 2021, the entire Democrat establishment, starting at the top with the President, is SILENT on the rioting. We have heard no calls for sweeping arrests and prosecutions. We have heard no calls for new legislation outlawing rioting, burning, and looting. Why? A cynic would say it was due to the fact that the party line continues to be that the January 6th attack on the Capitol was by Trump supporters. Interestingly, there is growing evidence that the instigators and lead rioters were, in fact, not Trump supporters but outsiders, Antifa-oriented anarchists bent on causing chaos in the government. But a more realistic analysis would be that the rioting and looting of the summer, and the current rioting serves a purpose of the Democrats - to demonstrate the need for ever greater governmental control. But that has to be taken one step at a time. First, let the “peaceful protestors” march, then loot, then burn and shoot in their own cities. Second, let them create their own little counties as with CHAZ. Third, allow the escalation to grow. Finally, when the people have had enough; when enough of the citizens have been arrested for trying to defend themselves; when enough businesses and homes have been destroyed and the police have been shot and killed; then the federal government can ride to the rescue with the National Guard and overwhelming force. Here's a question to ponder. If you are a resident of, say, Tennessee, do you trust the members of the Tennessee National Guard not to shoot you if ordered to do so by a commander? Think long and hard about that.

Rioting is a lot like mask wearing in the Wuhan virus era – rioting for me and mine but not for thee and thine.
