"Students" Out of Control

Within the past week, children masquerading as students at universities in California have been permitted to indulge in temper tantrums, endangering the safety of other people and infringing on the right of others to hear points of view with which the children disagree.

Would-be lawyers training at Stanford Law School shouted down and eventually drove United States Circuit Judge Kyle Duncan from the room where he had been invited by The Federalist Society on the Stanford campus. The thugs were aided by a woman posing as a “Dean of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion” who, rather than quieting the children and demanding that they afford the justice the respect due to any public speaker, she attacked him verbally, encouraging the children in their tantrum. When the Dean of the Law School apologized to Judge Duncan, the infant lawyers threw another fit.

A similarly disgusting event took place last year, 2022, at Yale, where Kristen Waggoner, President of Alliance Defending Freedom, was shouted down by unruly students who did not intend to allow her to speak. They succeeded and she had to be escorted from the building to the shame of Yale!

Hard on the heels of the Stanford debacle, the students at University of California, Davis, shouted down representatives of Turning Point USA. Once again, the angry children, not wishing to hear any views that differ from theirs, prevents other students from hearing. So much for democracy and free speech.

These three examples are not an exhaustive list of the outrages perpetrated by alleged “students” across America. Similarly outrageous tantrums have occurred in numerous other locations formerly called “institutions of higher learning.” Those institutions have long ago forfeited any claim to higher learning, having become little more than training grounds for children incapable of making rational arguments in defense of their beliefs. The abdication of their responsibility to educate has been encouraged and promoted by many in the media. Two examples will suffice.

Following the Stanford debacle, The San Francisco Chronicle, relieved itself of a headline: “Trump Judge Kyle Duncan Got What He Wanted Out of Stanford: Fame.” In other words, because Judge Duncan was appointed by President Trump [and, of course, confirmed by the United States Senate!!], he was not entitled to be heard. Talk about a brain-dead response. But, to the children at Stanford Law School, The Chronicle affirmed their actions. Do you suppose they will restrain their childishness the next time?

And The Sacramento Bee, a renown progressive rag, labeled Charlie Kirk, the President of Turning Point USA, as a “transphobe” and Turning Point USA as a “far-right” organization. And, as if accepting the invitation, radical angry children showed up to shout down and drive off the speaker. Accident?

A federal judge, questioned following the Stanford outrage, suggested that the law students who demonstrated their antagonism to opinions differing from theirs are unsuited to the practice of law. Ratcatcher agrees. It will be interesting to watch to see whether any of them are able to land clerkships with federal judges after this episode. Ratcatcher is hoping not.
