To Coup or Not to Coup

The party of democracy cannot make up its collective mind.  More than a year ago, the party gray hairs, those who “know,” decided to structure their 2024 presidential electoral campaign to assure that only Joe Biden could be elected.  They were convinced that he could defeat Donald Trump a second time.  Arcane rule changes prevented others from competing in any effective manner.  Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. was pushed into the status of a third-party candidate and then denied Secret Service protection [for all the good that would have done].

The intelligentsia of the Democrats knew they had the army of the legacy media on their side, secure in the knowledge that any gaffe, lapse, stumble, contradiction, or lie made by their candidate would be covered up or explained away.  This was a done deal!  Start organizing the inaugural balls for January, 2025.

But then came June 27th and the debate with Donald Trump.  Conservative media such as Fox and News Max had faithfully reported the decline of the President throughout his entire term, but the progressives had laughed it off or outright denied it.  But on national television, before a huge audience of Democrats as well as Republicans and Independents, the screen came off.  We saw, in all its pathetic details that there was no wizard behind the screen, just a frail old man incapable of maintaining a coherent message or responding appropriately to questions.  The fraud of the Biden presidency was laid open for all the world to see and see it they did.  The howls of Democrat despair were matched by the Republican glee.  Finally, the truth was out for all to see.

Well, what to do?  The cameras were barely off the debate when Democrat voices began whispering that “Joe has to go.”  That chorus has grown in the weeks since.  Democrats are hastening to line up on one side or the other.  Interestingly, the “elites” of the party, those who control how it works, its policies, rules, who it supports and who it attacks, in other words, the top political leaders, have nearly unanimously decided that “Joe must go.”  His family, his campaign staff, and, presumptively, millions of ordinary Democrats who voted for him in the artificially staged primaries, have dug in claiming that the elites are undemocratic, that they are attempting to disenfranchise those who voted for President Biden in the primaries.  It is hard to dispute their argument.  That is precisely what Chuck Schumer, Nancy Pelosi, Adam Schiff, and, most especially, Barack Obama are doing.  Some in the media has labeled this a “quiet coup.”  It is not.  It is loud and in your face.  The power structure has calculated that Joe cannot win and, after all, winning is everything.  Never mind the issue of policies that have marked the Biden presidency.  Never mind the issue of fair play and following the rules.  Never mind  ignoring the express wishes of millions of your voters.  “Joe must go.”

The Democrat National Party Convention will be held in mid-August in Chicago.  It remains to be seen whether the coup that is currently under way will succeed, be postponed to the convention, or will simply fade away like other really bad ideas.  We would do well to remember that the handbook for all Democrat leaders is Rules for Radicals by Saul Alinksy.  Those rules may fairly be boiled down to a single rule – the end justifies the means.  Here the end is maintaining power; the power of the presidency but, perhaps more significantly, the power of the hidden government, the bureaucracy – the swamp.
