The Ratcatcher receives mail and comments from readers that are, on balance quite interesting and often helpful. In the wake of the surprise press statement given yesterday by one Tony Bobulinski, a man identified as a former business associated of Hunter Biden and the recipient of some of the emails that have been found on what appears to be Hunter Biden’s computer, we received a letter from a lawyer expressing grave concern about the fact that it had been disclosed that Mr. Bobulinski intended to meet with the FBI and to hand over three cell phones on which he claimed evidence existed substantiating his claims about former Vice President Joe Biden. We have reproduced the pertinent portion of the letter here for your evaluation:
“News reports late today indicate that Tony Bobulinski, the former partner of Hunter Biden and the man who issued a press statement yesterday just prior to the presidential debate, has agreed to turn over his cell phones to the FBI. I sincerely hope that he is not being advised by Covington & Burling, the D.C. law firm that failed to represent General Michael Flynn in his dealings with the FBI and the U.S. District Court. I do not know Mr. Bobulinski. I do not know whether he is an honest man or a crook. What I do know, however, is that it is extremely foolish and very dangerous for anyone to speak to the FBI these days, particularly without highly competent and aggressive legal assistance. Keep in mind that the FBI has apparently had possession of Hunter Biden’s computer for nearly one full year but evidently done nothing with it including making its contents known to the President and his defenders during the fraudulent impeachment proceedings earlier this year. From what we have learned through the limited amount of media that has not been squelched by Facebook and Twitter, the computer had information that exonerates the President from the spurious claims advanced by Adam Schiff. We also know that virtually all of the cell phones used by members of the Mueller Special Counsel squad mysteriously were rendered inaccessible; all of their data was irrevocably lost; sort of like the Clinton emails.
"So, Ratcatcher, here’s my concern. First, if I were Bobulinski’s lawyer, I would have made sure that the contents of his cell phones were duplicated and kept in several safe locations, beyond the reach of the FBI. Second, I would be extremely careful lest the good folk at the FBI set another trap for Mr. Bobulinski similar to those set for General Flynn and others. The FBI has behaved in a manner over the past five years to cause any thinking person to be very wary of any assurances given and cautious about what is said. Remember, under the preposterous provisions of a federal law, it is a crime to lie to an FBI agent and we know from very bitter experience that the FBI is only too happy to use any means available to entrap a person into an accidental misstatement that is then characterized as a lie, providing the predicate for prosecution.”
What do you think about this? Is Bobulinski in danger of entrapment by the FBI? Are his cell phones likely to be “lost?” Let us know.
