Whose Border?

Numerous pundits on the right have already and quite correctly observed the stupidity of the Biden Administration’s policies and decision process when it comes to borders. The Ratcatcher simply wishes to add its two cents worth to the discussion.

The media, lame stream as well as conservative, are filled with stories concerning the threat posed by Russia and Vladimir Putin to the territorial integrity of Ukraine. The facts are clear: Russia has massed thousands of troops and armaments along the Eastern border of Ukraine, apparently threatening to invade that country. The Biden Administration lacks a coherent public position on the threatened invasion – whether America will side with Ukraine and attack Russia; seek to create a consensus among European countries to mount a campaign of monetary sanctions against Russia [and, perhaps, some of its leaders??]; or simply do nothing. The most heated voices are those who favor mounting a military response to the Russian threat. Sadly, they are joined by a handful of Republicans who seemingly cannot find a war they don’t love [Liz Cheney among others].

There is no doubt that an American incursion in defense of Ukraine would cost this country billions of dollars in treasure and perhaps thousands of additional lives.

So here are some of the questions Ratcatcher would pose to all of the war hungry hawks in Washington:

1. What is America’s security interest in defending Ukraine from Russia?

2. Are there the magical dominoes that will fall in Europe if America does not intervene? [Here one must have at least passing knowledge of the entre of America into the Viet Nam conflict].

3. How many billions of dollars will such intervention cost America?

4. How many American lives will likely be lost in such an action?

5. Do you have an “exit strategy” to end America’s involvement in such a conflict?

6. Is there a better use of American taxpayer money and lives than in defense of an acknowledged corrupt regime?

Now, here are the questions that ought to be driving the decision process:

1. What makes the Ukrainian border more important than the Southern Border of the US?

2. Have you considered the national security risks posed by the Biden open border policy that allows hundreds of thousands of illegals into this country every month with little or no prior vetting or identification?

3. Do you know where those hundreds of thousands of illegals are now residing in the US? Do you actually have names, addresses, and other identifying information to assist you in locating them?

4. Have you considered the cost to normal American citizens, their cities and states of the influx of illegals?

5. Wouldn’t the completion of the wall on the Southern Border be far less expensive and much more useful than involvement in a war with Russia?

6. Have you totaled the cost of the deaths caused annually by overdoses of illicit drugs smuggled over the Southern Border with the complicity of the Biden Administration? How does the value of those lives stack up against the value of defending the Ukrainian border?

Ratcatcher does not expect the Biden Administration, or any of those who are promoting war against Russia to answer these questions. But they raise tantalizing issues of priority. Boiled down to the most basic – who/what is more important – the security of the Ukraine or the US? We dare Mr. Biden to respond.
