You’ve Got to be Kidding

The Ratcatcher does not normally harangue on an issue. However, after posting “Help Wanted” earlier today, we could not stop thinking of the self-inflicted wound the Minneapolis City Council sustained by its cowardly pandering to the BLM and ANTIFA mobs demanding the defunding of the police.
As reported earlier, Minneapolis has lost well over 100 hundred police officers due to commitment of the City Council to dismantle the police department. As a direct consequence, crime in Minneapolis has skyrocketed leaving the citizens without adequate protection. So the City is asking for help from other policing agencies, including the Hennepin County Sheriff’s office. But the question is begged: Will officers from other agencies be willing to subject themselves to the abuse common in Minneapolis? Are Deputy Sheriffs going to be willing to risk being abandoned by the City of Minneapolis the first time they interact with black people in Minneapolis? The City has created a record of abandoning its officers, failing to accord the Police Department fair treatment and due process in the investigation of incidents. When the inevitable happens and an officer from the Metro Transit Police or the Hennepin County Sheriff’s office is involved in a shooting incident, how will the City of Minneapolis react? Is that a risk that any experienced officer will be willing to accept? Or will the City of Minneapolis find itself short-handed, struggling to protect its citizens and their property, all because cowardly elected officials caved to the demands of a mob?
